Department of Biochemistry, Medical University of Gdansk would like to appoint researchers willing to participate in the TEAM program of the Foundation for Polish Science within the project: “Nucleotides in pathology, diagnosis and therapy of heart disease” led by Dr hab. Ryszard T. Smolenski.
The aim of the project is development of innovative therapies of heart disease by interaction with nucleotide metabolism and signaling. Specific studies will include testing effect of decreased expression/inhibition of AMP deaminase on signaling cascades and progression of heart disease. Another study will test effects of genetic modifications related to nucleotide metabolism in transgenic animals for potential inhibition of rejection after xenotransplantation. Further study will evaluate whether enzymes that convert extracellular ATP to adenosine will improve function of bioengineered heart valves.
The project is conducted in collaboration with academic partners from Italy, United Kingdom, Germany and USA. The project started in April 2012 and ends in June 2015. General information on TEAM programme of FNP: http://www.fnp.org.pl/
